UTAH MOVING COST COMPARISON

Cardboard boxes or reusable plastic crates?

The sticker price is only part of the decision. A useful comparison includes tape, store trips, assembly, durability and what happens after the move.

A 35-container example

PURCHASED CARDBOARD≈ $175 + TAPE
  • Illustrative 35 boxes at about $5 each
  • Pickup, assembly and tape required
  • Breakdown, storage or recycling afterward
35 EZCRATES$169 STANDARD RENTAL
  • Delivery and pickup included
  • Attached lids; no packing tape needed
  • Two heavy-duty dollies included

Illustrative comparison only. Retail box prices and sizes vary. EZCrates pricing shown is the standard seven-day 35-crate package before optional additions, taxes or partner benefits.

When cardboard may make sense

Cardboard can be reasonable if you already have enough clean, correctly sized boxes, need long-term storage, or are moving outside the EZCrates delivery area. Specialty cardboard is also appropriate for wardrobes, artwork, televisions and certain fragile items.

When reusable crates have the advantage

  • You want packing containers delivered instead of making store runs
  • You prefer consistent stacks in the home and moving truck
  • You do not want to buy tape or assemble every container
  • You want sturdier protection against crushing and Utah weather
  • You want the empty containers picked up after unpacking

The short answer

If you need to acquire most of your moving boxes anyway, reusable crates can deliver similar direct cost with substantially less setup and cleanup.
